Kedai Minuman dan Makanan Teluk Pulai @ Klang

I had Bak Kut Teh for lunch yesterday. Went to Kedai Minuman dan Makanan Teluk Pulai in Klang. It is said to be one of the shops that serves authentic Klang Bak Kut Teh and one of the best in town. It is a corner shop located at Taman Intan, which is opposite Jusco Bukit Raja.

Bak Kut Teh can be literally translated as "Meat Bone Tea". The dish is said to have originated from Port Klang where coolies working at the port in the 19th century ate Bak Kut Teh as a health tonic to gain energy.

Typically a breakfast dish, where pork is cooked with mixture of herbs and is usually served with white rice and Yau Char Guai (fried dough stick).

My friend and i ordered streaky pork, but no intestines. (I never eat intestines!) I tried to order Yau Char Guai, only to be told that they were sold out! It's a pity because Yau Char Guai goes very well with the porky broth. (Sad...)

Bak Kut Teh @ RM18.00 (2 pax)

Another picture of the same dish,
after soaking all the lettuce into the soup.

The soup was dark-coloured with tasty herbal concoction. It was thick but much smoother, as compared to most of the Bak Kut Teh restaurant one may find from other area. I honestly think they deserved the reputation of being one of the best in town!

However, the serving of Bak Kut Teh is quite small for 2 pax, a bit on the pricy side.

A side-dish for your eyes only...

The water is kept hot in a kettle, by using a mini gas stove attached to a gas tanker, in the middle of the restaurant. Two tables would be sharing a kettle at one time. A sight that is quite common for a Bah Kut Teh restaurant in Klang.

However, i saw a man sitting very near to a gas tanker, with fire burning from the mini gas stove. This is such a dangerous stunt! That man is putting himself at risk. Wouldn't he fear that he will get burnt?!
